SPEAKERS
See below. More to be announced...
Dan Gookin is serving his tenth year as a Coeur d’Alene City Councilman. He is an outspoken advocate for transparency in government and a fiscal hawk. He is often called the lone voice of reason on the city council, siding with the public over an ever-expanding government.
Dan began his political career in 2002, running for the Idaho Senate as a Libertarian. Yes, he lost. He was then elected as a Libertarian precinctman and served on the state party central committee as vice chairman. He was removed from office when he decided to run as a GOP precinctman in 2004. He lost that one, too. In 2007, Dan ran for the Coeur d’Alene city council and lost. He lost again in 2009. That race was most likely stolen, though Dan didn’t make a big stink about it. Finally, in 2011, persistence paid off and Dan won. It didn’t matter that City Hall ignored the people’s cry for a public vote on the McEuen Park project, but it helped. He has been reelected twice and currently serves on the Kootenai County GOP Central Committee. Dan sees his role in government as protecting people rights. His purpose is to represent the little guy in the fight against the beast of government. He listens to all sides, appreciates alternative points of view, as is willing to change his mind based upon new data. He is not a rubber stamp and never a hero to the status quo crowd. Dan is an author, having written over 170 titles on computers and technology, including the first For Dummies title, DOS For Dummies. He is an online instructor with LinkedIn Learning. His first non-technology book was published last year Running for Local Office For Dummies. He lives in Coeur d’Alene with two of his four sons. |
